Overview
Mood Melody is a relaxing and ambient music player app designed in response to a student project brief asking to design iOS and Android versions of a mobile app.
Problem
When creating a relaxing environment, whether it be to work, study, or sleep, music can play a big part.
How do you find the right music to put you in a relaxing mood?
Solution
Mood Melody offers users the ability to listen to music curated to certain moods and themes or to create custom playlists out of the music in the app’s library.
Reasearch
Better Sleep
During the research stage I looked at several comparable apps available on both iOS and Android platforms, including sleep apps such as Better Sleep.
Better Sleep’s color scheme and imagery give it a relaxing nighttime feel.
Spotify
I also looked at popular music player apps such as Spotify. One feature I noticed is a small floating music player allowing users to view what they currently have playing while browsing the application.
Userflow
Style
The visual style for Mood Melody was designed to set a relaxing atmosphere for the user. The color palette and imagery is dusk inspired to evoke a sense of calm. The design also utilizes transparency to add to the dreamy feel.
User Testing
User testing was conducted using two Adobe XD prototypes, one for the iOS design and one for the Android design.
“I do not get what the difference is between the home and music sections.”
“Home and Music seem to serve the same purpose.”
After receiving feedback I went back and made adjustments to the design. I adjusted some of the wording to help clarify the difference between the personalized home page from the music library where users can access all of the music in the app.
